January 2023

To a Great Year Ahead of Us!

In many cultures, January is a time of new beginnings and resolutions. People often set goals for the year ahead and make plans to improve their lives in various ways. This tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions dates to ancient Babylon, where people would make promises to their gods at the start of each year.

In business, setting New Year’s resolutions (goals) can help you focus on areas that need improvement and both establishing and achieving goals to succeed in the coming year. Setting realistic and achievable goals that align with the business’s vision and values is essential. Therefore, every time we look back on last year’s January, we are thrilled to see the growth and progress we made!

January business got under way rapidly, as many companies and individuals had to immediately start new projects and initiatives. Holidays and winter weather notwithstanding the number of language service requests during this time remained brisk. It has been an exciting month filled with great projects for us.

Translation Projects Continue to be on the Rise

Our teams have worked closely with the education sector and have handled the translation of curriculum models for a university. A curriculum model is a framework that outlines the structure, content, and assessment methods of a particular curriculum. Several curriculum models are used in education, each emphasizing different aspects of teaching and learning. Our translators have translated curriculum models with over 300,000 English source words into Spanish for one of the largest universities in the east of the United States.

Furthermore, we have deepened our relationship with multiple international law firms. An international law firm is a law firm that operates across national borders, providing legal services to clients around the world. These firms typically have offices in multiple countries and are capable of handling complex legal matters that involve cross-border issues. Due to their international nature, they require multilingual translations, as well as transcriptions. Our translators and transcriptionists have worked on documents from English into German, Italian, Spanish, EU French, Turkish, and Portuguese (Brazilian & EU)) for one of the largest international law firms around the world.

American Language Services also specializes in language services for the medical sector. In January, we worked on a large project for one of the largest medical device manufacturers. A medical device is any instrument, apparatus, machine, software, implant, or other similar product intended to diagnose, treat, monitor, or prevent diseases or other medical conditions. Medical devices range from simple tools such as thermometers, blood pressure monitors to complex devices such as pacemakers, MRI machines, and artificial organs. These devices are needed internationally. AML-Global has translated these devices from English into Portuguese (Brazilian & EU), Italian, Swedish, Spanish, Italian, German, Finnish, Polish, and French Canadian to name some.

Another industry is that we work with is the beauty sector.  We work closely with the United States’ virtual salon and beauty supply distributors. Salon and beauty supply distributors play an essential role in the beauty industry by providing beauty professionals with the products and services they need to succeed. They help beauty professionals stay competitive and offer their clients the latest beauty products and trends. Our teams have translated policies, manuals, and application descriptions from English into Spanish, EU & Canadian French, Arabic, German, Korean, Bulgarian, and Nepali for a large salon and beauty supply distributor.

A Wide Array of Interpreting Projects

Our Interpreting Department has handled a busy month with clients and assignments worldwide. This department plays a critical role in breaking down language barriers and ensuring effective communication between individuals who speak different languages. Our interpreters have worked on a documentary for one of the largest production companies. Documentaries may cover various topics, such as politics, history, social issues, science, or the arts. They may also feature interviews with experts, witnesses, or people directly affected by the subject matter, as well as archival footage and other visual materials. Therefore, our Brazilian Portuguese interpreters were needed on-site in the production facilities to provide language services and close the language barrier gap.

The legal sector requires interpreting services daily, and we are long time legal specialist in this arena which includes law firms, corporate legal departments, and court reporting companies.   Legal interpreting is the process of providing language services in legal settings, such as courtrooms, law offices, and depositions, to facilitate communication between individuals who speak different languages. Our legal interpreters have specialized training and knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and ethics to convey information between parties accurately. Consequently, our interpreting department has handled legal multilingual interpreting assignments for the most prestigious law firms in the United States every day in January. In this context, we have also provided governmental departments with language services. Our interpreters worked on interpreting assignments for agencies and departments, like immigration offices, law enforcement agencies, and social services agencies. The most requested languages are Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL). In January, we also provided interpreting services for languages like German, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin, Korean, Russian, Albanian, Croatian, Burmese, Turkish, and many more.

Additionally, we provided Japanese interpreting services for the most advanced nuclear energy providers in the United States. A nuclear energy system is a complex technology that harnesses the energy produced by nuclear reactions to generate electricity. Nuclear energy is generated through the process of nuclear fission, which involves splitting atoms of uranium or plutonium to release a large amount of energy. Consequently, interpreting services for these projects are highly complex and require the best and most skilled interpreters to provide accurate interpreting.

American Language Services also collaborates with a large university in Washington. Our American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters provide interpreting services for deaf students daily. ASL is an essential means of communication and cultural expression for deaf people, and it is recognized as a natural language by linguists and educators. Also, we have worked with a recruiting business. They are a pioneer in social enterprise and have created employment for people with disabilities. Our Spanish interpreters have done simultaneous interpreting with equipment and technicians for their English <> Spanish conference that was held in January.

We are a Los Angeles-based company. Los Angeles is a hub for the entertainment industry, including film, television, music, and video games. It is also a center for international trade, technology, fashion, and tourism. Our Media Department handles projects for all industries that need media services. This month our team has worked in the post-production for a significant stream services platform. They have worked on on-screen graphics and music for 12 different languages. It is exciting to be part of the creations for the public. We have an on-site studio for media services, but our linguists also have home studios in case of multiple bookings a day.
