Interesting Interpreting & Translation Projects Completed in May

We recently completed a fascinating multi-locational interpreting project for John Hopkins University for a conference that took place in 3 different locations; San Francisco, Palo Alto and the Napa Valley. For the 5 day conference several Mandarin and German interpreters were requested by the client along with a full array of equipment including sound reduction booths, portable headsets and receivers, transmitters and on-site technicians. The conference was a huge success.

Another interesting interpreting project AML-Global were able to provide services for was for eBay. The project was a 2 day conference in San Jose, California. Numerous Turkish interpreters were required for this job, as well as equipment including fully encapsulated booths, portable headsets and receivers, transmitters and on-site technicians. The conference went well and American Language Services were happy to provide our excellent interpreting service.

An fascinating translation project completed at the beginning of May was for Grason-Stadler. The project involved translating an introduction to the company script. The document was translated from English into 14 different languages; Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Turkish, Danish, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Swedish. The project was flawless.

Timely Tips

There is no one ‘right’ way to do a translation, since translations are somewhat subjective in nature. In other words, there are many ways to say the same thing and it is very helpful when our clients share with us their stylistic and/or preferences. For example, a client may say they want the translation done as literal as possible. Others may want us to provide translations that are more conversational and friendly and culturally correct rather than literal. It is important to share with us your preferential Glossary of Terms, if one exists, that you have developed which will allow us to implement specific word choice and phrases on all future documents going forward.
