Marching Forward in March

There is always a lot going on in March for American Language Services as it is for seemingly everyone. This is especially true if you’re a sports fan. In March, there is the famous March Madness men’s and women’s basketball tournament that culminates with a national collegiate champion. The NBA regular season is almost over and the playoffs are about to start. Baseball season is just beginning.

Historical Tidbits in March ‘

Some interesting historical tidbits that occurred in March: JFK established the Peace Corps on March, 1, 1961, the first women’s suffrage march in Washington D.C. took place on March 3, 1913, Ulysses S. Grant became commander of the union armies in the civil war on March 9, 1864, and on March, 1946 Winston Churchill gave his famous speech about the Russian ‘iron curtain’.

March Birthdays of Well-known Individuals

Shaquille O’Neal shares his March 6, birthday with Michelangelo; the famous renaissance painter, Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) celebrates his birthday on the 2nd along with Jon Bon Jovi, Alexander Graham Bell was born on the 3rd in 1847 and finally Nat ‘King’ Cole was born on the 17th in 1919 … Happy birthday to all of you who have March birthdays! Birthdays aren’t the only thing being celebrated this month, American Language Services is on the march and taking good care of our customers.

Interesting Interpreting & Translation Projects Completed in March

We recently completed a job for a great client of ours Louisiana State University the project took place in the police academy in Conakry, Guinea. The job took place over one week and we supplied several French interpreters, portable headsets and transmitters, sound reduction booths and onsite technical support. This project involved biological disaster training and was a big success.

Another interesting project completed in the beginning of March was completed for Ethisphere Institute a Scottsdale, Arizona-based organization that defines and measures corporate ethical standards, recognizes companies that excel, and promotes best practices in corporate ethics. This was a nationwide meeting that took place over a 2 day span in the Empire State Building in New York. We provided them with Korean, Japanese and Russian interpreters along with a full array of equipment including portable headsets and transmitters, sound reduction booths and onsite technical support. The project went off impeccably.

Translations Completed with a Very Tight Deadline

We completed a translation project for ISBX who is one of the largest application designers in California. The project involved translating a private policy statement into 8 languages: Simplified Chinese, Korean, European French, Canadian French, Japanese, Tagalog, Spanish and Malay. This project involved very tight deadlines and we turned it around flawlessly, in an expedited basis, in less than 2 working days.
