Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on July 14th each year. In France, it is formally called ‘La f’te nationale’ and commonly ‘Le quatorze juillet’.
The French National Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, an important event 226 years ago in Paris in the French Revolution, which had begun two days earlier. Celebrations are held throughout France. The oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe is held on the morning of 14 July, on the Champs-‘lys’es in Paris in front of the President of the Republic, along with other French officials and foreign guests.
Two days after the French National Day, we worked with Genesys Telecommunication, a global company that sells customer experience and call center technology to mid-sized and large businesses. We provided them with translations in more than 25 languages including EU French, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Swedish, Japanese, Korean, Armenian and many others.
On the interpreting side, we also worked with the Iowa Coalition against Sexual Assault that connects sexual assault agencies across Iowa and helps provide resources, tools, and training to advocates who serve survivors of sexual violence. From July 13 to July 14, we provided them with 4 Spanish interpreters and equipment, headset/ receivers and portable transmitters for more than 6 hours each day. The service was very effective.
