Most probably, Minsk was founded by Prince Vseslav of Polotsk (also known as Vseslav the Sorcerer). He ordered to build a fortress at the confluence of the Nemiga and Svisloch rivers in the 11th century. Minsk Castle was founded in the 11th century as a fortress on the southern borders of the Principality of Polotsk.
