Last weekend was Memorial Day Weekend, meaning most of us had a 3-day weekend to commemorate this important Federal Holiday. Memorial Day is a time to honor all Americans who have died in military service for the United States. Many people will go away for the holiday, have parties, family gatherings or sports events. We also have summer right around the corner as the month of May is almost over. At American Language Services, we are looking forward to providing our clients with the best service possible.
Historical Tidbits in May
Some interesting historical tidbits that occurred in May are: an American U-2 spy plane flying at 60,000 feet was shot down in Central Russia on May 1, 1960, on May 18 in 1998, one of the biggest antitrust lawsuits of the 20th century happened as Microsoft Corporation was sued by the Federal Government and 20 State Governments who were charging the company with using unfair tactics to crush competition and restrict choices for consumers, and on May 27 in 1937, in San Francisco 200,000 people celebrated the grand opening of the Golden Gate Bridge by strolling across it.

Actor Rudolph Valentino was born on May 6 in 1895, singer and songwriter Billy Joel celebrates his birthday on May 9, May 10 is the birthday of Fred Astaire, NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman enjoys his birthday on May 13, French Physicist Pierre Curie was born on May 15, 1859, Edward Jenner; an English physician and scientist who was the pioneer of the smallpox vaccine, was born on May 17 in 1749, and funny actress Tina Fey celebrates her birthday on May 18, 1970… Happy birthday to all of you who celebrate your birthdays in May! Birthdays aren’t the only thing worth celebrating; we have been celebrating our recent translation, interpreting and transcription projects.
Interesting Interpreting & Translation Projects Completed in May
AML-Global has been very busy with interpreting projects especially for school districts like the Montebello Unified School District. Throughout the month, we have been able to provide several different language interpreters for various reasons at all locations of the school district. For parent meetings, speech and language evaluations and many other reasons, we provided interpreters in 5 different languages; Arabic, Armenian, American Language Services, Mandarin and Vietnamese. Every project was a huge success.
A big translation project this month was finalized for Yukon Medical. A large document needed to be translated from English into 24 different languages; French, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Portuguese, Turkish, Czech, Greek, Estonian, Hungarian, Arabic, Latvian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Slovak, Serbian and Simplified Chinese. This translation project went excellent.
Another translation project from this month was for Thales Avionics; a large supplier in the aerospace sector. A privacy notice and terms of use document needed to be translated from English into French, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. As usual, with our excellent translators, the translation went perfectly.
