May We Not Forget

In May, we have a federal holiday; Memorial Day. Memorial Day is always on the last Monday of May and this year happens to fall on May 29 meaning this weekend is a long one. The day honors the men and women who have died whilst serving in the U.S. military.’ It was originally known as Decoration Day, but became known as Memorial Day after World War II.As the month is slowly coming to an end, we are preparing to start the month of June and all it has to offer. At American Language Services, with summertime beginning, we become increasingly busy with translations, interpretations, transcriptions and multi-media.

Historical Tidbits in May

Some interesting historical tidbits that occurred in May: On May 18, 1804 Napoleon Bonaparte became the Emperor of France, the Wall Street Crash began on May 5, 1893, George VI was crowned the King of England at Westminster Abbey following the abdication of his brother Edward VIII on May 12, 1937 and on May 17, 1954 in Brown vs. Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that segregation of public schools ‘solely on the basis of race’ denies black children.

Florence Nightingale; the founder of modern nursing was born in Italy on May 12, 1820 and shares her birthday with George Carlin an American comedian, Stevie Wonder celebrates on May 13, on May 16 Janet Jackson enjoys her birthday, Megan Fox; an American actress celebrates on May 16 also, Malcom X; a human rights activist was born on May 19, 1925 and Bob Dylan celebrates his birthday on May 24… Happy birthday to all of you who celebrate your birthday in May! May is a time for celebrating, at American Language Services we have been celebrating the success we have had with our recent projects.

Interesting Interpreting & Translation Projects Completed in May

We recently completed an interpreting project for AMCI Global a company who aims to transform the way people interact with automotive brands. AMCI Global has been a customer of ours for many years and we always aim to keep them happy. For a dealer meeting & racetrack event in multiple locations around Las Vegas, over 20 French interpreters were need during a 3 day period. This was a very large job and went flawlessly. In past years, we have provided interpreters in many languages including Spanish, Italian, French, German, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese.

Another interesting interpreting project completed in the end of May was for Conceito Brazil an event management company based in Brazil. The job took place in a hotel in Chicago and was an NRA conference. For the week-long event Brazilian ‘Portuguese, EU French and Spanish interpreters were needed along with portable headsets and receivers and transmitters. The conference was a huge success.

Throughout May, we have completed numerous translation projects for the State Bar of California a client of ours for over 10 years. We translated documents from Russian into English, English into Russian, and Chinese into English, Korean into English, English into Korean, to name some. These documents are usually needed very quickly and we turned it around perfectly.
