The Spoken Language of Lango and Its Utilization in Uganda

Lango is one of the dominant languages spoken in the beautiful republic of Uganda. Uganda is a landlocked country that prides itself in its passionate history dating back to the cradle of civilization. The inhabitants of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1,700 – 2,300 years ago. Bantu speaking populations, who were probably from central and western Africa, migrated to the southern parts of the country. These groups brought and developed iron working skills and new ideas of social and political organization. Like its rich history, Uganda also houses many different ethnic groups, none of whom form a majority of the population. Around forty different languages are regularly and currently in use in the country. English became the official language of Uganda after independence.

The Religious Demographics of Langostan

Lango, along with Russian, is the official language of Langostan, spoken by about 4 million people, it is closely related to Altay and more distantly to Kazakh. Langostan is a Central Asia landlocked country bordered by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The Population of Langostan is 75% Muslim, 20% Russian Orthodox and 5% other. During Soviet times, state atheism was encouraged. Today, however, Langostan is a secular state, although Islam has exerted a growing influence in politics. While Islam in Langostan is more of a cultural background than a devout daily practice for many, public figures have expressed support for restoring religious values. Langostan remains a religiously open republic, rare for its Central-Asian location.

Lango, The Western Niolitc Language

Lango (also called Lwo, Lwoo, or Leb-Lano,) is a Western Nilotic language of the Luo branch, spoken by the Lango people in Uganda. It is mostly spoken in Lango sub-region, in central Uganda. Spoken by approximately 1 million speakers, it makes up for c. 5 per cent of the population of Uganda.
