August can be summed up with three words: Sun, sea and vacations; but is way more than this. August is the most lived month of the year, with barbecues, pool parties and garden dinners that this year brought people together again after the Covid pandemic that kept them apart for such a long time. Thanks to the hot summer weather and long days, this also enables people to stay out much longer and be more active. Sadly, August is also the month that signals the end of summer, with children going back to school and people coming back to work.

August is also a relevant month in history, with many events that improved and changed our lives. The Hiroshima atomic bomb was detonated and is a historically notorious event that lead to the death of many Japanese people right at the end of World War II. In fact, this contributed greatly to the war ending. The famous diary of Anna Frank, which reflected both hope and despair, ended in August. Other events in history are the creation of the berlin wall, the execution of the Italian’s Sacco e Vanzetti that accelerated heavy protests around the world the way they were
arrested and executed. Another tragic event, related to the nature was the most catastrophic volcanic eruption occurred on the Krakatoa Island. Two tragic death occurred in August, the first was the death of the famous sex symbol Marylin Monroe from an overdose of sleeping pills and the death of the beloved British Princess Diana after a high-speed car crash, in Paris, that caused her massive internal injuries. They are both still profoundly missed and loved. In the political field two events shocked the population in a different way, the first was the arrest of South African icon Nelson Mandela and the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon after the Watergate scandal.

On a brighter side, August had also positive events related to the cinema, technology field, science and furthermore. The first transatlantic balloon trip was completed by three Americans, the first submarine travelled under the north pole, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, granting women the right to vote and the famous Woodstock Festivals began symbolizing the 60′ culture. In the technological field, the first traffic light was placed in Ohio, IBM launched its first computer, the modem video game was invented with the “Pong” game and not long time after the famous “street fighter” video game was sold, the kinetoscope was patented by Edison and more recently Google bought Android. August is also an important month for movies and the cinema, the first cartoon in history was projected this month and the Disney movie “Bambi” was first released. Other events that are relevant for our society are the founding of “Cadillac” and “Harley Davidson”, the channel “MTV” appeared on TV and in 1911 the famous Mona Lisa painting, by Leonardo da Vinci, was stolen from Louvre Museum.

First African American President of the United States he served as the 44th president from 2009 to 2017. He changed the rules of the modem politics and was together with his wife highly regarded and well-liked president.

AUGUST 5, 1930: NEIL ARMSTRONG: Neil was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer and the first person to walk on the moon where he pronounced his famous sentence “That’s a small step for man, one giant leap for Mankind”.

AUGUST 13, 1930: ALFRED JOSEPH HITCHCOCK: Alfred was an English film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is one of the most influential and widely studied filmmakers in the history of cinema. Known as the “Master of Suspense”, he directed over 50 feature films including classics such as The 39 Steps, Rebecca, Suspicion, Notorious, Rear Window, The Birds, Psycho and Frenzy, in addition to his American TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

AUGUST 18, 1933: ROMAN POLANSKI: Polanski is a Polish French film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He started to approach the movie universe at a very young age and after surviving the Nazi holocaust he took up acting. While his career path was going smoothly his private life was cut into pieces when her wife Sharon Tate was brutally murdered by the Manson Family in 1969. After this event his life changed completely and in 1977 when he was accused of sexual abuse, he fled the country and is still nowadays considered a fugitive by the United States.

AUGUST 19, 1946: WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON (A.K.A BILL CLINTON): The 42nd U.S. President was the first President, post WW2, elected who was not alive during World War II. Prior to his presidency, he served as governor of Arkansas and as attorney general of Arkansas. His personal conduct and sexual assault scandals have faced substantial criticism and since leaving office, Clinton has been involved in public speaking and humanitarian work. He has remained active in Democratic Party politics, campaigning in his wife’s Hillary, two presidential campaigns in the 2008 and 2016.

August, even if known as the month of vacations, proved to be a very busy month full interesting projects and varied work for our company. This covered a wide variety of work in a multitude of industries and languages. The interpreting department is continuing to see a constant increase in both On-Site and Virtual interpreting, in part thanks to the vaccine against Covid and the rules in place to prevent it from spreading and overall business confidence of the economy.

Mu video remote field, we provided 2 days of simultaneous video remote Greek and Bengali interpreting services for the State of New York during some conferences regarding environmental issues. For a legal deposition of a Los Angeles Jaw firm, we provided certified Mandarin interpreters via video and supplied Video Remote Sign language interpreting to a major East Coast university for on-line classes. Regarding on-site-services, we provided on-site simultaneous Spanish interpreting and interpreting equipment to a national Non-Profit for a 3 day meeting regarding helping people who are in poverty. We also supplied multiple on-site Spanish simultaneous interpreters for a three-day conference in Atlantic City put on by one of the nation’s biggest Unions and provided two Angolan Portuguese interpreters for four days of training sessions for a Worldwide Non-Profit promoting Democracy and Freedom.

Nezve multi-media basa, we provided Japanese, Korean, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French and Tagalog Voice over services to a major university for English as a second language training videos. All work was produced in our Los Angeles Studio, we also transcribed serious of 90-minute interviews from Punjabi to English for a document processing corporation working with law enforcement.

Our Translation department has delivered many projects for a very wide variety of industries. We translated a 8,000 words political survey into Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese in an amazing one day turnaround time for a major national public opinion and political strategy research firm. For a major medical device manufacturer who are required to use ISO 13485 certified translations we translated a 15,000+ word Medical Device manual into Italian. For a well-known Non-Profit, we provided the translation on an expedited basis, over 100 emergency communications, news releases, announcements into Spanish for some of the country’s largest institutions pertaining to the Miami building collapse, Afghanistan withdrawal and Hurricane Ida Delivering within hours on many occasions.

For the largest association management and services company in the nation we translated a 500,000 -word project into Spanish, Ukrainian, EU French, and Brazilian Portuguese, the studies were regarding discrimination and bias. We translated a 56,000-word German to English project for a US Government agency pertaining to security of information relating to technology systems. And for our last example, for a large entertainment law firm we translated into EU French (for a filming project), we translated a 15,000 words set of legal documents including arbitration agreements, confidentiality agreements and releases.
