October2020: The Autumn Season is Here

The summer season has officially come to its end and it is now time for Autumn. Even if the sun is still shining, in a great part of the world the days are becoming shorter as a result of the global time changing. In fact, is it not a coincidence that on this month in 1884 the Greenwich meridian time was established as a reference point in order to be able to synchronize clocks all over the world.

Even if the days are getting colder a constant thought warms us up like a big hug. What we are referring to? The Halloween festivity of course! Although his origins are to be founded in the Celtic population and regards the remembrance of the deaths, nowadays has acquired another meaning and the children of all over the world are used to go door to door masquerade to ask the famous question “trick or treat”? This year, with Covid 19 is still upon us, will be different than other years. More drive ups, and drive ins and less door to door. The spit is still there. We hope for all of you to have fun, get the best candies and stay safe. Also, be careful or you will meet the dentist soon! Happy Halloween!

Other than Halloween, October is a month remembered for a large number of historical events. First of all, in 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered what we now know as the United States of America. In addition, two of the most Important and acknowledged universities in the States were founded and I am referring to Harvard founded in 1636 and Yale founded in 1701. On an ominous note, black Monday and black Tuesday of 1929 are remembered as the worst days of the Stock market history causing a ripple effect and resulting in a huge financial crisis.

On to more beautiful and positive things, two of the most important monuments of the United States were inaugurated in October. I am speaking about the Statue of Liberty and the Mount Rushmore. On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated on Bedloe’s Island in New York Harbor. The statue was a gift from the people of France commemorating the French & American alliance during the American revolutionary war. On October 31,1941 The Mount Rushmore National Memorial was completed after 14 years of work. The memorial contains 60-foot-tall sculptures of the heads of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt – representing America’s founding, political philosophy, preservation, and expansion and conservation. Both monuments are recognized as part of the artistic and historic heritage of the country.
