septembar 2021

September marks the official end of the summer and welcomes the change in season to Autumn. If children are playing at the seaside anymore, they are bundled up. School is back and kids are ready to attend a new year. This is a far cry from the last 2 years spent studying at home due to the pandemic situation. Offices, businesses, shops with all the activities that involved, are finally coming back to the old days and our business too, especially on-site interpreting services, which are increasing more and more, go along with video remote interpreting, and we couldn’t be happier.

September, especially for the U.S. is a significant month. Twenty years ago, on the 11th of September 2001 the most violent terrorist attack of the modern history took place, when four different planes crashed into the twin towers, the pentagon and the last one in a field thanks to the brave passengers that prevent it from crashing into the white house. The 2996 victims were remembered in a special ceremony this year, during the 20th anniversary of this tragedy, at ground zero. The ceremony gathered thousands of people there and millions of people around the world were glued on the screen, all together remembering the victims in a very respectful and profound way. We, as American Language Service remembered and honored them and those who have lost a loved one in this tragedy.

September has also a lot of relevant historical facts, some in a negative way and other in a positive one. On the negative side we have the invasion of the Poland by Hitler’s Germany that started World War 11, the death of two important Hollywood actors, James dean who died at the age of 24, becoming a legend forever, and the Princess Grace of Monaco, a gorgeous movie star previously, a very loved Royal, and talented actress.

On the positive side the United States of America signed its first constitution, New Zealand became the first state to guarantee women the right to vote, Chile independence from Spain, the Spanish governor of California founded Los Angeles, the WWF was born, General Motors was founded, and the first Tiffany store was opened.

September saw many inventions born, such as the drink alcoholic Scotch, the first television, the invention of the microchip, the first worldwide highway, and the discovering of the Penicillin, destinated to change the modern medicine forever. In regard to our modern day in September Google was founded by Page and Brin, a few years later google launched Android and the emoticons were introduced.
