Dari language, the Official Language of Afghanistan

Dari Persian is a dialect of Persian and is the official language of Afghanistan. This country is at the crossroads of the East and West and sits within Central Asia and the Middle East. Afghanistan is a melting pot of cultures, mixing Dari and Pakistani with bordering Asian countries. Afghans, like many Middle Eastern countries, take great pride in their religion, culture and ancestry. Poetry is extremely important to Afghans and vital to passing on traditions of culture and history, Persian poetry is considered to be some of the most prolific and affluent of all the world, so much so that almost every home has a personal collection of poetry.

Dari and Farsi Languages are often thought of as Interchangeable

Dari is also called Farsi if Afghanistan as it is a subset of language groups related to Middle Eastern dialect. Dari was the official language of the Sassanids court and emerged as the language of Persians after the defeat of the Parthians by Ardeshir. It is a classical style of Persian language that stresses words differently, similarly to British and American English (the main difference between Dari and Farsi). Oddly, while a spoken word may be pronounced differently, the written word can be the same. This is marked by the major grammatical difference of the continuous tense, mainly the verb "to have" used abundantly to indicate continuous action.

It is important to note that some people do not consider the Persian spoken in Afghanistan to be a separate dialect. The language name of Afghanistan was officially changed from Farsi to Dari due to political reasons in 1964. Dari is a language not learned scholarly, but rather as a mother tongue, similar to different dialects within major languages. Because of this, Dari is an essential party of Afghan culture and a language worth understanding for those who intend on traveling the Middle East.
