Hausa, Territory and The Challenges Facing Niger
Hausa belongs to the West Chadic languages subgroup, which in turn is part of the Afro-Asiatic language family. Native speakers of Hausa, the Hausa people are mostly to be found in the African country of Niger and in the north of Nigeria, but the language is widely used as a lingua franca (similar to Swahili in East Africa) in a much larger swathe of West Africa and Central Africa. The main country Hausa is spoken in, however, is Niger, a landlocked country in Western Africa. It gets its name from the Niger River and borders Nigeria and Benin to the south, its size makes it the largest geographical nation in West Africa. With over 80% of its territory covered by the vast Sahara desert, Niger is one of the poorest nations in the world and faces drought problems every year. The economy is concentrated around subsistence and some export agriculture clustered in the more fertile south, and the export of raw materials -- especially uranium ore. Although Niger faces an uphill battle, Nigerian society reflects a great diversity drawn from the long independent histories of its several ethnic groups and regions and their relatively short period living in a single state.
How American Language Services Specializes in Specific Dialects Related to Hausa
American Language Services prides itself in retaining the most talented translators in the business. This is especially important when concerning the different dialects of Hausa, more importantly, non-native Hausa. Non-native Hausa is a term which defines the Hausa language as spoken by non-native speakers (especially as Hausa language is used as a lingua franca in West Africa). Non-native pronunciation vastly differs from native pronunciation by way of key omissions of implosive and ejective consonants present in native Hausa dialects.
The Complex Phonology of Hausa
Hausa has 5 phonemic vowel sounds which are both single and long, giving a total of 10 vowel phonemes which are called Monophthongs and 4 joint vowel sound that are called Diphthongs giving a total number of 14 vowel phonemes. The complex phonology of Hausa makes it vital to obtain a native speaker of Hausa for any form of translation need.
