About the Founder: DINA SPEVACK

Dina Spevack, an accomplished educator and language expert, founded American Language Services (ALS) in 1985.

A world traveler, she has many years of experience facilitating communication and understanding among various cultures. Her love of language and diversity flourished during her days of teaching at the prestigious Le Lycee Francais. Embracing the changing needs of the global community, she formed American Language Services to help bridge the communication gap between people and businesses of all cultures.

A History of Success:

ALS started out as a language emersion school, teaching new immigrants English as their second language. Shortly after its inception, ALS transitioned from a school to a language agency. The first commercial client was Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California, working with their deaf community providing American Sign Language and other foreign language interpreters. Nearly 23 years later, we still work with them on a regular basis. For the first 10 years, the primary focus of ALS was the legal industry. As demands grew from our legal client base, ALS began lending its language expertise towards document translations. ALS fast became an important resource in providing interpreters for various legal proceedings. ALS offered Court Certified Interpreters for: trials, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings and other proceedings in the local Western United States market. To satisfy the growing demand of our legal clients, ALS launched its legal written translation and transcription business.

Through our outstanding work, ALS has evolved into a nationally known language firm and to this day handles a who's who of top national law firms as well as a multitude of fortune 500 and other major firms across the U.S. and internationally. Through the years, our reputation for excellence continues to grow.

In the last 14 years, ALS has branched off into a multitude of specific markets and specialized services. ALS was at the forefront of the Internet boom. The translation of web sites, software programs, on line advertising, software localization and other internet related medium has been an important part of our development.Today,

The translation of technical documents such as operations, procedures, engineering and medical manuals, as well as other complex technical oriented documents, has become a significant and fast growing part of our business model. This specific expertise in conjunction with our desk to publishing (DTP) unit makes a great combination for effective completion of complicated, technical and time sensitive projects.

In 1997, ALS successfully launched its commercial interpreting division and this segment of our business continues to represent our largest growth area. Interpreting for conferences, conventions, trade shows, trade missions, seminars, meetings, symposiums, and focus groups, among others, takes unique expertise in many fields. ALS works internationally and provides interpreting services, full audio equipment, technicians and pre-event consulting services.
